KB40915 - Microsoft Critical Update for Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7

May 14, 2017 - Hackers found a vulnerability in all versions of Windows including  Win 10, 8 and 7. A massive Ransomware attack took place in Europe over this past weekend. It is expected to get worse today as people return to work, they are calling this Blue Monday.

As a result, Microsoft released the following Security Bulletin yesterday -  This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. The most severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution (taking control of your computer)  if an attacker sends specially crafted messages to a Microsoft Server Message Block 1.0 (SMBv1) server.

More details and where to download the security patches are here.

Identity Safe Not Working after Update to Firefox v.40?

If you have updated your Firefox  recently you are most likely up to version 40. That said you may also notice that your Norton Toolbar including Identity Safe will be disabled in Firefox. Check under Tools/Add-ons. It may look something like this:

Note there is no ENABLE button above. After weeding through several forums and conflicting information from Symantec on the topic, here is how to fix it.

Programs affected: Norton Toolbar w/ Identity Safe (standalone or part of Norton 360).

Latest update of Identity Safe is: 2014.7.11. It requires several updates  to allow you to enable the add-on again in Firefox v.40 which turns on the Norton Toolbar and Identity Safe.

If you have upgraded to Firefox v.40 , open Identity Safe or other Norton product. Check for Updates (NOTE you have to do this several times and reboot several times) this is  what others will not tell you.

It was not until my 4th update and reboot that it started working. If you have any questions let me know.
